What is a gift in a will?

A gift in your Will, also known as a legacy gift or bequest, is a heartfelt and lasting way to support causes that matter deeply to you, even after your lifetime. This gift can take various forms, such as a specific amount of money, a percentage of your estate, or even particular assets. Whether you’re considering a gift for the first time or revisiting your existing Will, your thoughtful choice can play a pivotal role in sustaining our life-saving efforts across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Betty's legacy

“I know the air ambulance meant a lot to my mum. She was aware of what the service does.”

In 2020, Ann Oliver lost her beloved mother Betty Titcombe, with whom she had lived with the previous nine years. Betty was a keen supporter of Cornwall Air Ambulance, spotting the helicopter fly over on missions and even kept watch for the crew landing at Treliske, where she spent some time in hospital.

Betty passed away on 28 December 2020, aged 95. She showed her devotion to Cornwall Air Ambulance one final time by leaving the charity a gift in her Will. Her kindness ensures the charity’s critical care paramedics can reach people in their greatest moment of need in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

A gift in a Will can be a simple yet meaningful way to ensure that Cornwall Air Ambulance can continue its lifesaving even after death.

Neil's legacy

“We were delighted when it was confirmed to us that the proceeds were going to Cornwall Air Ambulance.”

After living in Cornwall for 80 years, farmer Neil Bailey knew all about the vital service Cornwall Air Ambulance provided.

When the time came for him to write his Will, he decided to remember the charity that had come to the aid of his family and friends, some of whom had been airlifted. When Neil passed away in 2018, he left behind an incredibly generous donation to the charity.

Debbie Henshaw, Senior Fundraising Manager, said: “Neil left 111 acres of farmland to Cornwall Air Ambulance in his Will. It is a gift that keeps giving.”

The three lots, amounting to 100 acres of Grade 3 productive farmland, was sold to local couple Ben and Sam Old earlier this year. Ben worked for Neil as a teenager, so purchasing his land and helping to fulfil his aim of raising a substantial sum for charity meant a great deal.
