Frequently Asked Questions

Your questions, answered

With so many different elements to our charity, it is natural that you may have some questions! Below we have compiled a list of FAQs that will hopefully answer your question, if not please get in contact with us below.

General Questions

Our mission is to provide critical care and swift medical intervention to the most seriously ill and injured people across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. Our aim is to ensure that every individual in urgent need of care receives timely and advanced medical assistance.

We operate solely on charitable donations and support from the community. We receive no direct, regular government funding for our operational costs. Donations, legacies, corporate partnerships, fundraising initiatives and occasional government grants sustain our critical care operations.

Our helicopter and paramedic aircrew respond to a wide range of medical emergencies and traumatic incidents. From medical incidents like cardiac arrests to severe injuries from accidents, our team is equipped to provide life-saving care on the scene and during patient transfers.

On average, our helicopter can reach the scene of an emergency within 12 minutes in mainland Cornwall and less than 30 minutes on the Isles of Scilly. This rapid response time is crucial in ensuring patients receive timely medical attention.

We fly a Leonardo (formerly AgustaWestand) AW169. A twin-engine helicopter, capable of delivering advanced critical care in emergencies.

When an emergency call is received, our helicopter and paramedic aircrew are dispatched to the scene. The paramedic team assesses and treats the patient on-site, providing essential medical intervention. If necessary, patients are then transferred to appropriate medical facilities.

Due to operational requirements, visits to our base may be limited. However, we occasionally hold open days and events that provide opportunities to learn more about our operations and meet our team.
