and Save
more lives
The evolution of critical care in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly... do you want to be part of it?
With your support in our #HELi2 appeal we will be able to attend more patients like Steven Webb.
At just 18 years old, Steven Webb didn’t realise that playing at a local swimming pool in Truro with his friends would change his life forever. As he dived into the deep end of the pool he hit the bottom, and broke his neck. Cornwall Air Ambulance airlifted him to Salisbury, where the nearest specialist spinal unit was, to give him the best chance of recovery. Steven was paralysed – but got the critical surgery that he needed.
In 2022 we attended 1,050 patients in need of critical care. Having a second lifesaving AW169 helicopter will mean even more patients will be attended when our primary helicopter is unavailable.
WAYS your support
WILL help
- We support over 1,000 patients who are seriously ill or injured every year, but there is scope to reach even more people by air when they need us most with the purchase of a second helicopter.
- Due to the extreme demands on our aircraft, a second helicopter will significantly boost our resilience and availability.
- At the centre of everything we do is the people who need us the most in their hour of need, our patients, and being able to provide them with the best possible critical care service across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

I wasn’t aware of anyone coming until I heard the helicopter. That was the first piece of reassurance that things were going to get better. I just don’t know how anyone could have got me out of the situation I was in, with the injuries I had, without the expertise and without Cornwall Air Ambulance. I wanted to come back and shake Tom’s hand- I owe my life to that man. He’s part of Cornwall Air Ambulance and they need to be able to keep doing what they’re doing. They’re just amazing people.

When your child is ill, time stops. Cornwall is remarkably lucky to have this service. We’ve got a small population spread across a big area, it’s vital that we have the air ambulance to reach people in need of urgent medical care. I was in the first air ambulance and feel proud that the service started here. Just think how many more people could be saved with a next generation of helicopter.
