Air Ambulance Week takes off across the UK on 9th September 2024 and runs until 15th September. This celebratory week is dedicated to raising awareness and support for the work done by air ambulance charities across the UK. The message “Today’s Supporter, Tomorrow’s Lifesaver” reminds us that by supporting the work of our air ambulance crews, we can keep the air ambulance flying and save even more lives.
What is National Air Ambulance Week?
Air Ambulance Week is the only week in the year dedicated to raising awareness and funds for the vital life saving work of air ambulance charities across the UK. Organised by Air Ambulances UK (the national charity that supports the work of all air ambulance organisations), Air Ambulance Week highlights the message that anyone, anywhere in the UK, can become a patient at any time.
When Is Air Ambulance Week in 2024?
This year’s National Air Ambulance Week starts on 9th September and will be a week filled with awareness to help raise funds for our air ambulance crews. In Cornwall, each lifesaving mission by air costs on average £5,000, and the crew are tasked to over 1,000 incidents every year. With operational costs rising and being entirely funded by donations, raising funds for Cornwall Air Ambulance has never been more vital.
What Air Ambulance Week Events Are Taking Place Across the UK?
Joining an Air Ambulance Week event not only shows your support but also helps to spread the vital lifesaving message of our dedicated crews. Each act of support today becomes hope for tomorrow, increasing the chances of survival and improving patient outcomes. Together, we save lives!
Whether you’re an adrenaline enthusiast, a social butterfly, or someone looking to give back, our events offer a spectrum of possibilities to engage, inspire, and elevate. Throughout Air Ambulance Week, various activities, events, and campaigns will be held across the country to raise funds and awareness for the air ambulance services. Check your local Air Ambulance website to see which events are happening near you, or create your own fundraising event to support the appeal.
In Cornwall, St Michael’s Mount in Marazion will be lighting up red in honour of Cornwall Air Ambulance – on Thursday 12th September from 8pm.
What is Cornwall Air Ambulance’s Message For The Week?
Cornwall Air Ambulance is calling on you to join the mission to bring home a second helicopter this Air Ambulance Week. During an incredibly important year with the Heli2 Appeal, Cornwall Air Ambulance is using the week to emphasise how a second high-specification AW169 aircraft will help the charity boost the resilience and capability of its service.
Paul Maskell, Critical Care Paramedic, said: “It’s really important that we get a second AW169. What that will do is increase our capability across the 365 days, 19 hours that we cover. We’ll be able to fly to more patients and ultimately save more lives across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.”
Each act of support today becomes hope for tomorrow, increasing the chances of survival and improving patient outcomes.
