Newquay women aim for world record row from Sennen to Scilly for charity

A team of women from Newquay rowing club set off today (Wednesday 4 August) with the aim of being the first all-female crew to complete the 27 nautical mile row from Sennen to St Mary’s on the Isles of Scilly.

The crew, named Sennen to Scilly, will be taking it in turns to row and coxswain the gig as they navigate the journey from the mainland to the islands.

This incredible challenge not only celebrates Newquay Rowing Club’s 100 year anniversary but is also raising funds for Cornwall Air Ambulance and Island Haven.

Team member, Ali Bevis, said: “After not seeing each other in lockdown, we wanted to come together to do a challenge this year. We’re all great friends, we have worked hard for it and will be so proud to be the first all-female team to complete this row. We wanted to support Cornwall Air Ambulance as we are based in Newquay and know what a great job it does.”

Best of luck to crew Ali Bevis, Jules King, Evey Evison, Ella Cattemole-Williams, Nicky Pender, Bec McCowen, Christina Hicks and Nicola Murdoch.
