Former farmer donates £500 to Cornwall Air Ambulance for 100th birthday

After hitting the big 100th birthday, former farmer Roy Olver recently visited Cornwall Air Ambulance’s HQ base to present a special cheque to the charity.

Roy grew up in St Stephens and left school at age 14, taking over his dad’s farm until he finally retired aged 80.

Over 200 people attended his landmark 100^th birthday and Roy’s special request to guests was asking them to donate money to his favourite two charities in lieu of birthday presents. This resulted in a donation of £500 to Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Speaking about his love for Cornwall Air Ambulance, Roy told us: “The Air Ambulance do a wonderful job and they’re at the scene straight away when an emergency happens. Cornwall Air Ambulance are wonderful, as the crew know what to do as soon as they reach a patient.”

He added: “I was very pleased to handover the cheque today and meet the crew. I plan to come back when I reach 200 and I’ll do the same again.”

Roy and his family posed for photos with the crew when their time was suddenly cut short, as the emergency phone sounded and the crew were called to their latest mission. Roy was able to stand back and watch the helicopter take off and see his heroes head up into the blue Cornish skies.
