Charlie’s Story

Charlie Jenkins sustained serious injuries while playing rugby and was airlifted to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro on 7th September 2014.

It was just a regular Sunday morning for 13 year old Charlie Jenkins of Wadebridge. He was playing rugby at St Kew as he did every week.

Ten minutes into the game Charlie was sprinting with the ball when he was tackled hard.  He said: “The tackle that was made on me wasn’t a standard tackle, it was a dump tackle where I fell straight onto my neck. I was left lying on the ground with pain all around my neck and lower back.”

“I was worried and so was everyone around me. When I heard someone say the air ambulance was on the way it worried me even more, if I’m honest. However when the two paramedics got to me they were very confident everything would be fine and they were amazing. I’m very grateful for all they did for me.”

Charlie made a full recovery and is playing rugby once more. He is keen to thank the people that support Cornwall Air Ambulance, saying: “If you already support the air ambulance then a massive thank you to you all, because without you there wouldn’t be the air ambulance flying to save people!”
