Lisa’s Story

Lisa’s summer holiday took a turn for the worst when she found herself injured and in need of help near the coast. After a day out in Newquay on 28 July, enjoying lunch in a local restaurant, Lisa and her husband went for a walk to enjoy the beautiful views.

She said: “First we looked at Crantock Beach and then at the stunning view overlooking Fistral Beach. This is when I lost my footing and fell- when I looked at my ankle I saw it was dislocated. An ambulance was called and a paramedic came who told us it was his day off- so a big thank you to him. A lovely lady stayed with us and helped by getting blankets and talking to me.

“I don’t remember too much after this, Cornwall Air Ambulance arrived with paramedics Jeremy and Thomas. I recognised them from the TV show Cornwall Air 999.”

The charity’s critical care paramedics were able to administer enhanced pain relief to Lisa, enabling them to reset her ankle. Lisa was conveyed to Royal Cornwall Hospital by road.

Lisa added: “My husband Mark told me the care I received was excellent and he was well informed at every stage. Whilst lying on the floor that day, in pain, I felt safe and very cared for by everyone and will be eternally grateful.”

Lisa is due to have an operation on her leg at her local hospital in Taunton.
