Cornwall Air Ambulance celebrates smashing £1 million mark in New Heli Appeal

Today Cornwall Air Ambulance is thanking each and every one of its supporters who have helped the charity reach the fantastic amount of £1,008,474.87 towards its New Heli Appeal.

After calling for support earlier this week, the charity has been inundated with donations from individuals and community groups who have helped it break the £1 million mark.

Dr Ed Abrahamson, one of the charity’s strongest advocates and supporters, made the key donation that pushed the Appeal over this milestone. Dr Abrahamson, who has already raised over £50,000 for the Appeal through taking part in a Skydive in the summer, said:

“It is a privilege to be helping the charity in this incredibly important mission. In fact, one cannot overstate the importance of the New Heli Appeal as it literally has a potential lifesaving impact on every single resident and tourist in Cornwall. Without the air ambulance the chance of surviving certain types of major injury or serious illness is significantly reduced, and as a pediatrician working in the emergency department, I know only too well the beneficial impact of rapid on-scene specialist treatment and transfer to hospital for such time critical emergencies.

“Cornwall is unique with its geographical challenges and the lack of a major trauma centre in the county. We simply have to succeed in this mission to bring the new helicopter in and failure is not an option!”

The charity still has a long way to go to reach the £2.5 million target in order to bring the new helicopter to the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The helicopter will help the critical care paramedics and pilots reach the most seriously sick and injured people across the region even more quickly, saving more lives for years to come.
