Cornwall Air Ambulance celebrates double award win at AAUK 2023 Awards of Excellence

Cornwall Air Ambulance is proud to announce that it has come away with a double award win at the Air Ambulances UK 2023 Awards of Excellence.

The annual awards celebrate and recognise the dedicated professionals who tirelessly contribute their specialised lifesaving skills and unwavering commitment to the air ambulance community.

Cornwall Air Ambulance is delighted to have won both the Campaign of the Year and the Charity Team of the Year categories, at a ceremony in Reading on Thursday 30th November.

The Campaign of the Year accolade was awarded to your charity for their 2022 Christmas animation Help Holly, which tells the moving story of a young girl who was involved in a serious road traffic collision. Thanks to the quick response of the critical care crew, Holly received lifesaving treatment, enabling her to get home to her family just before Christmas. A BAFTA winning composer and supporter of the charity produced a soundtrack called ‘Blades in the Sky’ which was recorded with choirs from across Cornwall – and even included the main voice of a young, airlifted patient who was rescued following an incident in the sea.

The Finance and Business Intelligence Team scooped the Charity Team of the Year award, following a nomination from the Great Western Air Ambulance Charity for their collaborative work. The team embarked on a bold programme to bring all their data sources together and use them, along with the power of modern data management tools, to generate useful insights around mission stats, fundraising campaigns, contact lists and monthly account reports. They invited colleagues from across the South West to the Newquay airbase to share their approach.

Cornwall Air Ambulance’s Captain Richard Dixon was also shortlisted for Pilot of the Year, highlighting his outstanding commitment to the role, and always going above and beyond to help the team, and even a patient when off duty.

Tim Bunting, Chief Executive at Cornwall Air Ambulance, said: “To be shortlisted in three categories and to come away with two award wins is simply fantastic. We are proud to be a member of Air Ambulances UK and it always incredible to hear about the outstanding achievements of our air ambulance colleagues across the country. We are very proud to have been recognised, and the awards are a phenomenal recognition for what each and every member of the charity does, whether aircrew, staff or Groundcrew volunteers, collectively helping to save lives every day.”

Simmy Akhtar, Air Ambulances UK CEO expressed her heartfelt appreciation for all of the 2023 Awards of Excellence winners and their outstanding contributions.

Simmy said: “Congratulations to our 2023 Awards of Excellence winners and their outstanding contributions. Our panel of independent judges made some tough decisions when choosing the winners and we would like to thank everyone who entered. Despite continuously having to face global and national challenges, the air ambulance community throughout the UK has remained determined to provide the highest-level specialised patient care at the scene. All nominees across categories, along with the shortlisted candidates and winners, collectively form a united group that collaborates to support their local communities during times of necessity. We extend our immense gratitude to the dedicated staff, volunteers, and supporters within our life-saving community.”
