Cornwall Air Ambulance will celebrate the 1st anniversary of its new helicopter today (Thursday 1 April) with a live broadcast from the charity’s airbase.
The AW169 helicopter went into service on 1 April 2020 following a successful public fundraising appeal which raised over £2.7million towards the cost of the aircraft. In its inaugural year, the helicopter has been tasked to over 500 incidents, continuing to fly and save lives in Cornwall throughout the pandemic.
To mark the occasion, the crew will be on Facebook Live on Thursday 1 April at 6.30pm to give supporters a behind the scenes look at the airbase and answer questions.
Thomas Hennessy Jones, Critical Care Paramedic, said: “The airbase has been closed to the public for over a year now due to Covid-19, which means none of our supporters have had the chance to see the new helicopter that they funded, and we can’t mark this anniversary with them in the way we would like. We are hoping a live broadcast from the airbase is the next best thing. It gives everyone the opportunity to speak to the aircrew directly, we’ll try to answer any questions and give everyone a bit of an update on what the first year with the new aircraft has been like.”
