Looe 10 Miler raises more than £4,000 for Cornwall Air Ambulance

Runners and supporters at the 2019 Looe 10 Miler race in February have raised £4,200 to support the Cornwall Air Ambulance New Heli Appeal.

More than 500 runners took part in the challenging event, with each entry fee contributing to the total raised. In addition close to 100 children completed a fun run, and there was also a raffle in aid of the appeal and donations collected on the day.

The money raised will help the Cornwall Air Ambulance purchase a new helicopter that will be able to reach people faster, travel further and carry more lifesaving equipment.

Becky Wise, Community Fundraising Manager for the charity, said: “We are incredibly grateful to everyone who supported the 10 Miler. Community events like these make such a difference to our fundraising and help us get ever closer to our goal. It was also great fun to cheer everyone on!”

Race Director, Bryan Maywood from Looe Pioneers, who organised the race, said: “We are delighted to have raised so much money. People were hugely supportive of our efforts – runners, spectators, and the local community – and then thanks to a little extra from the club, we were able to make it a nice round number!

“Cornwall Air Ambulance provides a critical service to the people of Cornwall and anything that we can do to help them purchase this new aircraft is really worthwhile. We also plan to raise more money for the appeal at next year’s event.”

Race organisers were able to donate a large proportion of the entry fee thanks to local companies covering many logistical costs. The event was supported by Adrenaline Quarry, Gibson’s Cornish Ice Cream, Cornish Tea and Coffee and Calweton Vets. Local businesses also supported the raffle, with a great selection of prizes including tickets to the Eden Project and Carnglaze Caverns, vouchers for Looe restaurants, and audiobooks from Richard and Judy who are also ambassadors for the appeal.
