Accepting your second AW169 helicopter

Accepting your second AW169 helicopter

Once the build and final configurations of your second AW169 helicopter had been completed, the aircraft was ready to be officially accepted by Cornwall Air Ambulance.

The acceptance means that the charity is happy with the completed aircraft, and it is officially handed over in ownership. In early February 2025, a small team of representatives from Cornwall Air Ambulance travelled out to Leonardo Helicopters’ production facility near Milan to carry out this process.

During the visit, final inspections of the aircraft were carried out followed by an official acceptance ceremony in the delivery hangar. This involved a photo and filming opportunity in front of the new aircraft, complete with a Cornish flag displayed proudly in front of it. The formal paperwork was signed by Cornwall Air Ambulance and Leonardo, meaning the charity now legally owns the aircraft.

A landmark moment for Cornwall Air Ambulance

Tim Bunting, Chief Executive, said: “This was a landmark moment for Cornwall Air Ambulance, as for the first time in the charity’s history we now own two state-of-the-art helicopters. This will boost the resilience and capability of our service, enabling the crew to attend more missions by air each year. Ultimately this will mean we’ll be able to save even more lives for many years to come.

“I’d like to say a heartfelt thank you to the people of Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly, and beyond, who are helping us fund this second lifesaving helicopter. We hope you’re looking forward to seeing your new aircraft in the skies as much as we are when it becomes operational this summer.”

Once the acceptance was complete, the helicopter was then ready for its ferry flight to relocate it to the UK.
