Defibrillator & CPR demonstrations spark interest at recent Open Day

Cornwall Air Ambulance’s Autumn Open Day returned last Sunday 8th September, with a twist. Opening its doors to the public, the charity gave visitors the chance to learn how to use a defibrillator, as well as putting their CPR skills to the test with an interactive challenge.

Hundreds attended, raising over £1000 for the charity. As well as raising vital funds, the public took away important knowledge having seen inside the defibrillator box and learnt how to use it- knowledge that could one day save a life.

The helicopter drew crowds once again as many enjoyed seeing it up close, taking pictures and meeting the crew while the pop-up charity shop and cake stall remained favourites.

Gemma Kidd, In-house Events Fundraising Officer, said: “We wanted to use this Open Day as an opportunity to demonstrate how to use lifesaving equipment and techniques that anybody can use. Using a defibrillator can be the difference between life and death, so to share these skills with the public was fantastic.”

“As a service, Cornwall Air Ambulance relies on the generosity of the Cornish people and beyond to keep the helicopter flying. Days like this not only help pay for those missions but also bring the community closer to the charity they fund.”
