Find out about hiking the Himalayas with Cornwall Air Ambulance

Himalayas4

Cornwall Air Ambulance is hosting a free information evening at 7pm on Wednesday 25 January, at it’s Newquay airbase for anyone interested in trekking to Annapurna base camp in the Himalayas this year to raise money for the lifesaving charity.

Sitting a whopping 13,549ft in the clouds, the hike to Annapurna base camp is one of the great treks the Himalayan mountain range has to offer. Places are still available to join an intrepid group of hikers who will make the journey of a lifetime in October to raise money for Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Becky Wise, Senior Fundraising Officer, said: “The hike to Annapurna base camp will be one of the most incredible challenges we have ever organised. You’ll be walking through awe-inspiring mountain scenery and getting a glimpse into the lives of people living in traditional villages along the way. Most people who take on one of our challenges have never done anything like it before and the feeling of pride and unity is very strong among those taking part.

“We’ve organised an information evening as an informal opportunity for people to find out a bit more about what’s involved in the challenge to see if it’s something they would like to do. We’ll talk about the itinerary, the kit required, fitness levels and give people fundraising information. There will be drinks and nibbles as well as the opportunity to meet other potential trekkers. I guarantee that those who do decide to take on the challenge will remember the adventure for the rest of their lives.”

Anyone is welcome to attend the information evening which will be held at 7pm on Wednesday 25 January at Cornwall Air Ambulance headquarters, Trevithick Downs, Newquay, TR8 4DY.

Cornwall Air Ambulance flies more than 700 missions a year across Cornwall and the Isle of Scilly saving time and saving lives. Since the charity started organising challenges in 2013, supporters taking part have raised £205,000 to help keep the air ambulance flying. These challenges have included bicycle ride through Vietnam and a trek in the Sahara.
