The 31st March brings with it the end of the New Heli Appeal, the two-year fundraising campaign to help purchase a next generation helicopter for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly. The charity set a challenging public fundraising target of £2.5m, but has been overwhelmed with support in the last two years.
The people of Cornwall and beyond have joined together incredibly to raise an amazing £2.8m – absolutely smashing the target set!
There are too many people to thank, with thousands of individuals donating, holding events or taking part in challenges. From the Heli Heroes, to donating pocket money, to driving a Tuk Tuk around India – we have been inspired by the support.
Barbara Sharples, Trustee and Chair of the New Heli Appeal, said “It is with immense gratitude and pride that I thank the wonderful people, businesses and communities of Cornwall & the Isles of Scilly and beyond. So many have donated so much. Today is a moment that will ensure Cornwall Air Ambulance saves even more lives in the future. A moment for our county to feel proud.”
Proudly funded by the people of Cornwall and beyond, this new state-of-the-art A&E for the skies will now be seen flying overhead as it travels to patients in need of critical care.
From 1st April, the new helicopter will come into active service, flying to those who need urgent care in Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
Thank you all for being lifesavers.
Thanks also goes out to the Appeal Board, our Ambassadors, and Vice-President.
Having a dedicated and enthusiastic appeal board to create new fundraising ideas, to organise and host events was an important part of reaching and indeed exceeding the appeal target.
