Cornwall Air Ambulance has welcomed Will Damerell to the aircrew, who has joined as a Trainee Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care.
Will, who was born and raised Truro, started his paramedic training at the age of 25 through a three-year university course. In 2018 he joined the South East Coast Ambulance Service where he spent six years working in Chichester, including two years as an Operational Commander.
Now Will has moved back to his home county to join the Cornwall Air Ambulance aircrew.
He said: “It was a dream come true to move back home, I’ve always wanted to come back to Cornwall, I had a really strong draw back here. Also I’ve had this want to be able to give back to the community that helped me so much when I was growing up, I definitely feel a debt owed to Cornwall and the Cornish people, so I wanted to come back. And critical care is my absolute passion within paramedicine, to be able to combine the two is perfect.
“Cornwall Air Ambulance is the pinnacle of critical care in the south west, and to be able to be surrounded by people who I’ve heard of and to learn from them is a great opportunity. I’m most looking forward to expanding my knowledge and skillset and being mentored and taught by some really knowledgeable and nice people.”
Will is currently studying for his Masters degree and will be taking on some further learning alongside that to qualify as a Specialist Paramedic in Critical Care, which will take around two years.
Outside of work, Will can be found surfing, messing around on boats, fishing or free diving.
