Brother & sister become Heli2 Heroes and aim to raise £1,000 by walking a mile a day

A brother and sister from Pool have launched their own fundraising campaign for the Heli2 Appeal, after their Nan was helped by Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Lowen, 8, and Kaja, 6, visited the charity’s Royal Cornwall Show stand during the three-day event back in June, where they found out all about the crew’s lifesaving work, after they attended the pair’s grandmother last year.

The children decided they wanted to become Heli2 Heroes, and took it upon themselves to raise the £100 to have their names featured on the second helicopter. They helped family with jobs around the house and gardening to raise the money needed, which will go towards securing the additional lifesaving aircraft for Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Lowen and Kaja said: “We really wanted to have our names on the helicopter because it helped our Nanny. We picked up litter at the cricket club, helped Nanny with her garden and helped Papa clean up the garage. We got a badge and certificate.”

After visiting the airbase to take part in a social media video, and learning how much the second helicopter will cost, Lowen and Kaja have now decided they want to raise £1,000 for the Heli2 Appeal by walking one mile a day for the whole of August.

The fundraiser is doing incredibly well and has already reached the £500 halfway point, and the pair even appeared on the Hits Radio Cornwall breakfast show with Neil & Saffy to talk about it.
