A member of the Cornwall Air Ambulance retail team and several friends have walked a staggering 30 miles in just one day to raise money for the Heli2 appeal.
Lynnette Hollett, the Bodmin Cluster Manager, and three friends took on the entire Saints Way trail in an impressive time of 11 hours and 13 minutes, covering 30 miles and burning almost 3,000 calories.
With a personal connection to the work of the charity after her son was airlifted when he was 12, Lynnette wanted to set herself a new challenge after previously taking on the Three Peaks, Yorkshire Three Peaks and Dart 10k swim.
Her friend Sharon had also been helped by the charity when the crew attended her father two years ago, but sadly he could not be saved. She joined Lynnette, sister Suzanne and friend Helen in wanting to raise money for the charity and the Heli2 appeal, to help secure a second helicopter for the people of Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.
The group set off from St Petroc’s Church in Padstow at 6.45am, onto Little Petherick, Blable Gate and up over St Breock Downs, before dropping down to Withiel and to the halfway point at Lanivet where they filled up with water and changed their socks. Then they headed over to Helman Tor, on to Lanlivery, to Milltown and down to Golant and right through Fowey before finishing at the church there, before a well-deserved trip to the pub.
Lynnette said:
It’s fair to say we were all incredibly happy, running on adrenaline and lots of proud smiles. What an achievement all in one day and hopefully making lots of money for the new Heli.”
The group are hoping to have raised £1,000 in total once it has all been added up.
