Cyclist to take on huge challenge with his dogs to help raise vital funds

A man from Bude is set to take on a huge cycling challenge with his two dogs to help raise vital funds for Cornwall Air Ambulance and four other charities.

Tom Pratt will be cycling from Land’s End to John O’Groats on a specially designed Dutch Larry vs Harry cargo bike which has a custom box on the front, that his two Pointers can sit in.

Tom, along with four-year-old Shelby and six-year-old Schulz, will be travelling 961 miles in just seven days.

On average, they will be travelling 130 miles a day and will be stopping every 48 miles to give the dogs a run and a rest. Altogether, Tom will be pushing 180 kilos in weight!

Tom said: “There’s something incredible about taking on a challenge like this, it’s not just about endurance; it’s about bringing people together for something that matters. I’m really looking forward to the whole journey, the planning, the training, the build-up events, creating content with the dogs! But also, the conversations it sparks and the people I’ll meet along the way. Seeing that support grow, whether it’s from friends, strangers, or someone stopping to ask what the dogs are doing in the front of that bike, is what’s going to keep me pushing forward.”

A challenge close to the heart

Training and preparation are now getting started, ready for the three of them to set off on their challenge in September 2026.

Throughout the challenge Tom will be fundraising for five charities: Talan’s Trust, Children with Cancer UK, Prostate Cancer UK, the My Name’5 Doddie Foundation and Cornwall Air Ambulance.

Tom said: “Cornwall Air Ambulance is especially close to my heart. Living in Cornwall, I know how essential this service is in a rural area where emergency access isn’t always straightforward. But beyond that, this cause is personal. My own father was airlifted to hospital during an emergency, it wasn’t Cornwall’s crew, but it was the same type of air ambulance service that helped save his life. That experience changed how I see the value of rapid response. These teams are literally the difference between life and death, and they rely entirely on public support to keep flying. Supporting them through this challenge is a way for me to say thank you, and to help ensure they can keep reaching those who need them most.”

All the funds raised through the challenge will be split between Tom’s five chosen charities.
