One of Cornwall Air Ambulance’s very own ambassadors, Richard Madeley, has raised an incredible £62,500 for the charity after appearing on a celebrity special of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire?

Both Richard and his wife Judy Finnigan share a love for Cornwall and as advocates for Cornwall Air Ambulance Trust (CAAT), they help shine a spotlight on the charity to help raise funds for this lifesaving service.

Now Richard has taken on the challenge of appearing in the hot seat opposite Jeremy Clarkson on a Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? celebrity special to raise money for his two chosen charities, CAAT and the Saint Francis Hospice in Essex.

After an impressive run of correct answers and some help with his lifelines to reach £125,000, Richard became stuck on a tennis related question and decided to play it safe by taking the money. The cash he raised is being shared equally between the two charities.

Speaking to us about appearing on the show, Richard said: “Wow. I don’t know how it came over to you watching, but for me, sitting in the Who Wants to be a Millionaire hot seat opposite Jezza was a surprisingly tense experience. You do NOT want to screw up! You’re not playing for yourself; you’re playing for a charity close to your heart and every pound counts.

“I’m so glad I ended up with some serious dosh for CAAT and I know they’ll put it to good use. This is a front line charity that literally makes a difference between life and death for so many, and I’m incredibly proud to be involved with it.”

The celebrity special was broadcast on ITV at 9pm on Sunday 16th October.

Richard’s donation to Cornwall Air Ambulance will go towards helping to keep your AW169 helicopter flying and responding to people in need, saving lives across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

Each year it costs over £5m to keep the charity running, and we rely on the generosity of the people of Cornwall and beyond. You can help support the mission here: Donate – Cornwall Air Ambulance (cornwallairambulancetrust.org)
