Freddie’s Story

Freddie Little was biking in Bishops Woods near the Camel Trail when he had his accident on 24 March. The 16-year-old was thrown over the handlebars on his mountain bike when a jump went wrong.

He hit the ground and was briefly knocked unconscious. Fortunately he was spotted by a passerby who called 999 for help.

Due to the remote location, Cornwall Air Ambulance was tasked, as no cars could approach the wooded area. The helicopter reached the scene just after midday.

Mum, Genny, said: “The air ambulance landed on the riverbed and the paramedics climbed through barbed wire and up a steep slope to reach Freddie. They were great.”

Critical Care paramedics Mick and Pete, along with the help of the Coastguard and a passing runner, were able to transport Freddie across the tough terrain to the helicopter.

He was given pain relief and airlifted to Royal Cornwall Hospital for further examination. Fortunately he suffered only minor injuries in the accident and was allowed home that same day.

Freddie said: “Doctors said I was really lucky. Thankfully someone found me and help came really quickly.”

Freddie has just finished his exams and is now planning a fundraiser for Cornwall Air Ambulance.
