Roz’s Story

Heavily pregnant Roz Davis-O’Leary, from St Neot, was alone in a field on Bodmin Moor back in June when she suddenly started having serious complications.

She had gone to visit her horse and had one of her dogs with her, she was 33 weeks pregnant.

At first she thought her waters had broken until she looked down and realised she was losing a lot of blood.

Luckily Roz had her phone with her, she called her husband and explained what was happening, who then told her to call 999.

A first responder and ambulance were dispatched to the scene. Because Roz was losing so much blood the Cornwall Air Ambulance was also called.

Roz was airlifted to Treliske Hospital where an emergency c-section was carried out.

Both her and her baby survived, but Roz says she became very close to losing her baby and her life.

“It was pretty scary, I was feeling quite physically weak because of the blood loss. What was going through my head was I was so scared of losing the baby.

“I wasn’t thinking about any risk to me, I didn’t think of myself of being in danger, all I could think about was my baby.

“I found out afterwards there was a risk to Morgan obviously, but also to me, without the air ambulance we’d be looking at a very different end to the story, I don’t think either of us would be here to tell the tale.”

Little Morgan was born six weeks premature and spent three weeks in the Neonatal Unit in an incubator.

The little tot is now a happy and healthy five-month-old and the family are looking forward to their first Christmas together.

Roz and her husband Michael have now met with the Air Ambulance crews who helped save them to say a massive thank you.

“Morgan is doing really well, there’s still some things we have to look out for, when they did the head scans there was a potential that she might have some damage because of the circumstances and the trauma, but it’s all looking good so far and she’s doing really well.

“Thank you just isn’t really enough to say, we are incredibly grateful to them and the amazing work they do. Without the air ambulance I think it’s quite likely we wouldn’t be here today.”
